Around 7 months, babies are ready for more variety and slightly thicker textures. You can begin combining two or more foods they’ve already tried to create exciting new tastes and introduce soft finger foods like steamed veggies or soft fruit chunks. Self-feeding skills are starting to develop, so let them explore with their hands, which also encourages sensory development. Keep up the variety, but don’t worry if they don’t eat much—right now, it’s more about discovering and experimenting with food as breast milk or formula is still their primary source of nutrition.
Signs your little one is ready for more:

MASTERED
SMOOTH PUREES

Your baby enjoys smooth purees & is now ready to try lumpier purees with a combination of flavours.

REACHING
FOR FOOD

They start making grabby hands at your plate & eyeing up your food like its the last slice of cake.

SOFT FINGER
FOODS

Your baby begins trying to put food in their mouth & feed themselves independently. This is important for developing the pincer grasp, a skill we'll cover shortly.

Job Title
“When introducing lumpier purees, start with small, soft chunks and slowly increase the size and texture as your baby gets used to them. For finger foods, make sure they are soft but start with larger pieces to make it easy for your baby to hold and practice their grip.”
